RICE TREATMENT
Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation
1. Elevation: Elevate the injured area above the level of the heart. This reduces swelling.
2. Compression: Wrap a couple of layers of elastic protective bandage on the injured area.
3. Ice: Put an ice pack on the injured area, on top of the bandage. Fasten the ice pack with the bandage. Leave the ice pack in place for 20-30 minutes. After removing the ice pack continue wearing the protective bandage. Continue ice treatment for 10-20 minutes after every 2 hours for 24 hours following the initial injury.
4. Rest: Resting protects the affected region from further injury and provides your body with the energy needed for healing itself.
Seek the advice of a physician if the injured joint does not function properly, or if putting your weight on the affected limb causes pain.
